[600MRG] Relative outside noise...

Dave,
I have been inactive for a few years but I recall trying a single wire
BOG of 1/4 WL at 500-KHz and it was 20-dB quieter than my Inverted-L
(43x130 feet).
But I found the BOG about 20-dB lower on signals (using NDB's as testing
sources out to 1000 miles).
I ran a SDR-IQ on 600m with Rx noise floor -130 dBm without antennna;
-115 to -108 dbm with Inverted-L. NDB's were in the -90 dBm range
(except a local one).
My last use of HF had S8 noise on 80m and S5 on 10m. Not particularly
quiet. My HF dipoles were brought down last summer when a tower came
down in winds and crashed across the wires. Hope to get T vertical up
yet this summer (40-foot vertical with 80m and 40m folded-dipoles as top
hat and base loading coil). t will be used on 630m or 160m with 300-ohm
open-wire feed shorted.
