Good morning,
I've had a mystery caller on CW for the past two mornings. While I
regularly detect signals that go unidentified while CQing (most of
them are just beating carriers moving up and down with propagation
shifts), I heard my call sign coming back to me both days but never
could isolate the calling signal quickly enough with filters and
antenna direction to ID before the peak died or they quit calling.
The signal wasn't the usual suspects (N9RU, W3TS or NA4N) as we had
either worked already for the morning or they indicated that it was
not them in the chat room. I was listening Northeast at the time that
the signal was initially heard but it could have been originating from
anywhere... The signal was never seen on my omnidirectional antenna
associated with the SDR receiver I use for the 630 meter RBN node and
I did not have the second RX at the operating position active either
day.
Tuesday's calls were around 1030z while this morning's calls were
around 1000z...
With the time change and at this point in the season, domestic
openings to and from the East are occurring later (relative to the
time change), at least from here in the central US. If you are the
caller in question, let me know so we can setup a sked closer to 1045z
or 1100z (assuming your daylight situation allows). At the very
least, please spot the CQ's on DXSummit as this will give me a clue
about where I need to look when the band is pulsing up and down
inconsistently.
Today was a very poor morning but seemed to improve some on approach
to sunrise in the central US (pre-terminator)...
73!
