John,
This may have application for portable use, as in emergency comm set
ups. I gather the loading coil is fixed so tuning is by top hat and
will also be subject to radials (number and length).
This about the same height as many commercial marine HF whips which use
a ATU for tuning (typ 2-16 MHz). 30-ohm impedance will need a tuner
(additional loading coil) to match 50-ohms. I guess broadcast
transmitters have output tuning circuits.
I sure some hams can duplicate this by home building (will need EZNEC to
model to find impedance parameters; that is how I designed my base
loaded inverted-L).
