[600MRG] FT891 problem (my 'review')

I just now wrote the following review of the FT891 HF tranceiver and posted it on eHam.net. It is not yet showing up on their reviews, probably pending review by staff. I think you can access it at this location until they post it.

Here is what I said about it:
----------------------------------
"I have had the FT891 for about two years now and it works ok on HF bands, but has a very annoying problem especially on 630 meters and below.

"There is a wandering 'squeal' that repeats about every 41 kHz from 40 kHz up into, and a bit above the 160 meter band.

"The only way to get away from this problem for frequencies below the AM radio band, is to use a low frequency receiving converter to bring, for example, 472 kHz to 10.472 MHz. You would also need to place a 500 kHz low pass filter ahead of the converter to keep out the AM broadcast band IMD products. This solution worked for me.

"I recommend avoiding this radio if you intend to explore/use frequencies below 2 MHz

"If you have an FT857d or the FT100d, hang on to it. I wish I still had mine. They received well on frequencies below the AM BCB.
------------------------------

I hope this helps those interested in the new MF and LF bands to make a decision when purchasing a radio for these awesomely fun bands.
