Dear LF/MF gang,
I will no longer be transmitting on 630 meters due to rapid changes in my vision. I have had blockage in the blood vessels in my eyes which has caused permanent damage, along with the advancing macular degeneration.
I lost some of my vision over 2 years ago in the upper third of my right eye. Then, last October I lost the center half of my vision in the left eye. I am afraid that I must hurry and simplify my station before I cannot see to do it. Another 'stroke' in my eyes could take out the rest of my vision at any time, thus my decision to remove all the complex wiring and relays associated with transmitting on 630m.
I hope that I will always remember hearing my first 600 meter station. It was Rudy's CW with a call sign of WD2XSH/20 back around 2005 I believe. Later, in 2013 John, KB5NJD encouraged me to get an experimental license. I got on the air as WG2XSV in November of that year. Then John, WA3ETD helped me with his MF Solutions transmit converter and later with parts for my first GW3EUP amplifier. My reception improved a lot when I got a Christmas gift from Laurence KL7L of one of his PA0RDT mini whip E-probes, which is still working very well.
I have had several 'firsts' in terms of QSO's in various modes that have been very gratifying. It has been a very fun ride and I have learned so much because of 600m and the great ops on the band. Thank you all for contributing to my enjoyment of this segment of our hobby.
I will alter my vertical for HF use on SSB and CW. I might do a bit of digital on lower HF as long as it might be possible.
Thanks for all the fun. I will be checking in on the chat pages to see what y'all are up to.
