Brian, K6STI has updated his inductor calculation program, COIL.EXE and I
highly recommend it.  The program takes into account skin and proximity
effects and the effect of self resonance (fr) which is missing from most
coil programs.  You can also enter insulating materials (hello bucket
inductors) and lead lengths to improve accuracy.  

 

You enter the coil dimensions, materials and operating frequency (fo).  The
program gives you inductance and Q at the operating frequency.  The program
also shows you how close to the fr the operating frequency is.  This is
especially important for the LFMF crowd where antenna loading inductors are
often large and fr relatively low.  For reasons explained in chapter 6 of my
notes, you do not want to use a coil where fo> 0.45 fr.  Brian's program
gives you fo/fr in percent so you can immediately see if there's a problem.
