So as I commented to Steve in a direct email, I personally don't think there is a problem pushing WSQ up to 477 but others may have better cause to say otherwise. I said 476 earlier because that's where WSQ has been used in NA so far. I think the concern was that moving up high in the band might interfere with phone activity but based on the stats that I have here you can count the number of unique phone QSO's that have been completed on less than both hands - its not wide spread.

My original comments referenced Brian's interest to put the tones around 474.5 which is close to JT9 and active with CW but I did and still do support using a *dial freq* like 474.5 or 475.5.. you just have to figure out what makes most sense for the tone freqs.. whether its 476 or 477 doesnt matter to me down here but I don't have the activity density problem that some places do...

John...this is a very real problem up here in VE7 with so many ear
shattering local signals. The only way we have managed to survive is by
steadfastly sticking to transmitting on the 'odds' for all of us but this is
not the case for WSQ which effectively shuts out the local activity on this
frequency unless they want to break local protocols that have been working
so well.

What is the problem with doing this higher, around 477? By then, any audio
harmonics spreading down the band have spread out a bit and one can find
holes in the JT9 section to work. I have no idea why this was set up in the
middle of the long established JT9 / WSPR section of the band as these modes
are not compatible.
