If your rig is on a bread-board or is open otherwise, I would be willing to BET you that what
is happening is RF from your loading coil is "getting back into" your rig.
I suggest that if you have not done so, you put that rig into an RF-tight box of some sort, or
at least move it as far from your loading coil as you can get it.
As an example, when I use my DX-35 on 40 meters with a VF-1 VFO which is not
completely RF-tight, the RF from the transmitter's output causes the VFO to chirp badly.
When I operate the exact same system on 80 meters, where the VFO is outputting on 160
meters, the signal qualtiy is perfect.
And BTW, I am 75 and still learning!!! :-)
