Last evening I was simultaneously receiving WSQ2, JT9, and WSPR using a USB dial frequency of 474.2 with WSQ2 set to +2000 hertz on the waterfall.
Since my JT9 waterfall is set with “N Avg” on “6”, I am able to see WSQ tracks that have moved down the JT9 waterfall after they have dropped off of the WSQ waterfall. As a result I was able to see Toby’s (VE7CNF) WSQ tracks when I walked back into the shack. I then fire off a call to him. We proceeded to have a QSO that was also partially decoded by K5DN (TX), N1VF (CA), and W7XU in So. Dakota.
I am seeing “+2000” as a “watering hole” for WSQ2 where people can meet and, if necessary, agree to QSY up the band by announcing a dial frequency at some 100 hertz increment above the usual 474.2 kHz. (…just make sure the dial frequency+2k does not put your signal any higher than 478.9, as that is where the lowest tone of WSQ would then transmit).
The download site for the DL4HF extended variant of WSQ is at http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/WSQ/ and the link to the program is on that page just above the “INSTALLATION” paragraph.
After opening the program, modify the settings for use at our 630m watering hole as follows:
Under SETTINGS:
Change LOWEST TONE ON TX: to 2000 hz.
AGC START…..to 1800 hz.
AGC END…..to 1900 hz.
Under DISPLAY:
Change WATERFALL FREQ RANGE…to whatever includes the area surrounding 2000-2080 with margins on either side of that. (I am using a wide waterfall from 800 to 2500 hz for now).
Under DECODERS:
DECODER 1 BASE FREQ: …change to 2000 hz
DECODER 1 SQUELCH LEVEL: …mine is 25-27 db, but make it whatever works for you…
DECODER 1 (AND TX) MODE: …set to WSQCall 1.46xxx tone spacing, which has a ~50 Hz bandwidth.
All other settings can be left at default until you want to experiment with them.
Good luck and I hope to see you on WSQ2 with a QSO soon.
