[600MRG] RW Beacon on Tonight, 0001z, 480 kHz

   The ‘RW Beacon’ (WA2XRM) will be back on the air tonight, 1 Jan. 2019 (Zulu day) ,

 at 0001z on 479.700 kHz. Transmitting  CW  from Colorado Springs,  CO.

Happy New Year…

   WA2XRM started operating in June 1998 on 162/166  kHz after the GWEN System was terminated.  Then moved up to 480 kHz in the year 2000 after the USCG abandoned 600 meters.  Transmissions have been heard Coast to Coast and North to Alaska.

   It has been a great experiment... Hope to make it to 30 years.

Off Topic…..

   The FCC’s OET (Office of Engineering and Technology), renewal and payment process is one of the most complex software systems I have ever encountered. Once you find the correct FCC web site for the OET, you sign in with your Password, FRN Number, then your Confirmation Number, which starts with the letters ‘EL’ (EL38####), File Number, and Correspondence Number, you must add (in the appropriate PTC code on Form 405) the renewal Trigraph which is  ‘EAE’ (not ‘REN’), then put all that in the OET Lockbox (979095). Then you can start working on the FCC Form 159 which requires entries of  non-descript items like “FCC Code 2” which is ‘13EA’ which you get from page 8, item 29A.

(Don’t enter anything in block “FCC Code 1” see paragraph 28A).

Then you will get a filing ID, Like 3191###, a Pay.gov tracking ID: 25E5.1 ### etc., Followed by an Agency Tracking ID = which is the same as the filing ID except it must be prefixed with a “PGC”. Then better record the payment Authorization Number = 117#### or your application will be lost. I still can’t find my new Confirmation Number for my 2018 File Number so I can’t check the application progress. I filed a “Renewal only” application but I think it recorded it as a “modification”,  I am doomed. Then the closed the government so my application is in the queue.

ps: None of the little (?) ‘Help links’ on the application web form seen to work.



The Amateur/UTC 600 Meter Notification process is a whole lot simpler.
