Did you see Steve Weber's email about the small Mag Loop?
He just built one of these. It hears really well.
Here is what he said:
The loop is really simple, just a piece of RG-58 coax on a PVC frame with 2 foot arms. I didn’t bother to try and make it “shielded”, I just used the outer shield of the coax for the loop.
To make it work, it needs a pre-amp. I found a design by IZ1AQ
http://www.lz1aq.signacor.com/docs/wsml/wideband-active-sm-loop-antenna.htm
and built a simplified version of it. He used some odd resistor values, so I just used values which were close in value and in my used parts bin. Built dead bug style on a piece of pcb material.
Doing A/B tests during the 160M contest last night, the loop heard just as well as the end feed 200 foot long wire. I’m hoping now I can hear some signals on the 630M band. It seems to work okay at the low end of the AMBC band, so there is some hope.
