Hi all:
Thanks for all the replies to this thread. I'll start by saying: " If it IS grounded, and CAN Be connected to;
I have done so. This probably reasons out why I see no VSWR / RF Current changes even with 100 plus foot Radials...
Back in 2009 when I plunged into my lowFER Beacon; I ran wires to literally - Everything Metal - I came to a point
where anything more, made no difference'es ( Diminishing Returns ).. My Mobile Home - frame, body, and now a metal roof;
are all connected to ground at both my 8 foot rod at the window, and the Utility ground... As to the radials on the ground;
several operators have said that " no changes were noticed at their end, but signals at distant receivers made a noticable
improvement "... With that empirical knowledge, I will run as much wire as I can get my hands on, in out of the way places
( not my yard ), and " accept what happens " ...
*** The area where I AM still seeing improvement *** - " Get as much wire as possible; as high in the air as possible... " :
I am still seeing noticable changes as I add Top Load wires to the set up.. On Wednesday ( 8-29-2018 ) , I added an extra
( approximately ) 390 feet of Top Load which is now close to 1,230 feet total.. The 390 foot run is 3 wires with a perimeter wire
at 30' AGL - ran out over the 3 - 115 foot radials that I am experimenting with... Immediate changes were; a 7 turn reduction
needed for the loading coil.. My noise level dropped by 1-1/2 S-units ( S-8.5 down to S-7 daytime level ).. I see a 2 milliAmp
increase in RF Current..
** This I have learned empirically ** - Never base any conclusions on a single night of operation...
Overnight WSPR receive operations reported 700 + mile stations coming in an hour earlier and stronger SNr numbers.
Distant reports of my signal were up also, and 3 west coast stations spotted me .. I am positive that the reduction
in solar activity had the most effect in the scenario .. More time will give better data.. Thanks for reading, and 73:
