From af5cc2 at gmail.com Sun Apr 17 20:13:11 2016 From: af5cc2 at gmail.com (John Geiger) Date: Sun, 17 Apr 2016 19:13:11 -0500 Subject: [50mhz] HF balun on 6 meters Message-ID: I recently added a MFJ 918 balun to my TGM Communications MiniQuad. The balun is rated for 3.5 to 30mhz. While changing some things around in the shack today I ran the miniquad on 6m instead of the 6 meter beam, and it showed a 1.4:SWR. That is much better than is rated for the miniquad on 6. The MFJ 918 is a section of coax with 50 ferrite beads on it. Could the good SWR come from excessive loss in the balun on 6m? What happens if you do use a balun beyond its rated frequencies? 73 John AF5CC From W3DHJ at jonz.net Tue Apr 19 19:01:36 2016 From: W3DHJ at jonz.net (Jonesy W3DHJ) Date: Tue, 19 Apr 2016 17:01:36 -0600 (MDT) Subject: [50mhz] FS: (book) Amateur Radio Astronomy Message-ID: Long story short: I volunteer at a non-profit used book store. All our stock is donated. Today I found this on my unsorted science work shelf: Amateur Radio Astronomy RSGB 2nd ed. 2011 John Fielding ZS5JS ISBN 978-19050-8667-2 in like new (indeed, unread) condition It's $19 and up, not including shipping, at Amazon. Since it's not likely we could sell this in our bookstore, I'm offering it for $18.00 ppd media class in the ConUS. Reply privately, please. Don't clutter up the reflector(s). If you know another place on the interweb where this book might be more eagerly "lusted after", let me know.
