This year's dedicated 6m EME DXpedition will be from V6M in PK90va, August 26-September 3, 2015, in celebration of my 50 years of VHF DXing. I hope to surpass my record from last July's DXpedition to KH8, where I completed with 68 stations on 6m EME. Anyway, you know that you can count on me to be making a dedicated effort to work as many serious 6m operators as possible! I will not have any internet or email communications from V6, but I have published a planned operating schedule on my web page. Full details are here: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/Micronesia2015.htm This is a solo expedition, and is going to be an expensive one. It seems like I am beginning to run out of cheap rare places to go on 6m EME DXpeditions that are new DXCC for virtually all the contacts! Please consider making a contribution, as explained on my web page above, either direct by mail (to the address shown at the bottom of this email) or to my PayPal account (which is the same as this email address). MNI TNX! Please call me if you do copy me on some terrestrial mode of propagation. If I am calling CQ on JT65A, I am probably aiming at the moon, so please answer me with the JT65A EME mode from WSJT9 or WSJT10 - NOT any HF JT65A program! With limited moon windows, I don't have time to shut down the EME operation and switch modes, so I will only answer callers who call using the proper JT65A version when I am calling CQ on EME with JT65A mode. I don't expect to have any terrestrial ionospheric propagation but it you hear me on CW or SSB, please answer me on whatever mode I am using at that time. Please don't bother asking me for contacts on any other bands - I will be WAY overweight with my 6m gear, and will not be operating any bands other than 6m. Hopefully this advance notice will provide adequate time for you to get your station geared up to connect with the first ever 6m EME activation of V6 ;-) If you have any questions about EME or JT65A, please look at the links on my website or email me for information. You can also find a large number of very helpful and experienced 6m EME operators available to help you through the Magic Band EME email group (subscription info below). Fixed and Mobile operation has been requested in ALL 50 US states and territories...with a freq tolerance of 5ppm (normal)...Amateur radio callsigns have been requested to be allowed under waiver and STT will act as US coordinator for all stations allowed to operate...(callsign, address and phone/email contact info on file)...Co-primary status has been requested with NO harmful interference allowed (like the 5MHz band)....NO rptrs or crossbanding will be allowed...this is an experimental operation with amateur callsigns as a WAIVER requested...(the FCC usually issues amateur like callsigns like WA2Xyz.....with the X denoting eXperimental...but for this, I want hams to use their normal calls...NOTE NO OPERATION WOULD BE ALLOWED without prior coordination via my company but once granted, the user may be able to operate under their callsign....ANY interference would result in an email from me and users would have to cease operation. Thats normal in experimental operations.. We will see what the FCC does....requested 12 months operation and then will file a request to change the Amateur Service rules based on the study. This is just like the 218-220MHz packet operation too... I have a lot of DB201s on 48MHz...they can be made to go down by adding on the VERY top of the folded monopole...will make them and NMO40s, etc. available at special rate (or less) if/when the FCC comes through on the request. Note 10k b/w FM is less than 2.5kHz deviation MAX...so no using 5kHz systems if this gets approved...Of course, rigs like ICOM 706s, etc will be allowed...probably need to modify it to USB and CW only.....but thought use of Midland STIIs, etc on FM at reduced deviation will be nice...and FUN!!! I got to thinking about the nice page that Dave had set up at QRZ.com and what might come of it's status in the future. While anyone can make a Silent Key Report to QRZ with minimal documentation in hand - in most every instance, all of the pictures and biographical data on the existing page gets scrubbed. Yesterday I contacted the staff at QRZ.com to request a little bit of background information as to whether or not the scrubbing of existing information was a hard and fast rule. Here's their reply: "Hi there Jon. It's not a hard and fast rule.. just how we've traditionally done things. Once in a while we get a request from a HAM who was a friend of the deceased, to manage the silent key's page. Many like to put up a memorial of sorts on the page. At that point, the info. wont disappear until the callsign is deleted by the FCC or reissued. If you wish to manage your friend's page I can certainly set that up. We'll just need his callsign. I will leave this ticket "open" so that you will have the ability to respond if you wish. Thanks for using QRZ!" That's good news. Dave's page will remain intact. I've made a few Silent Key Reports and it troubled me that on a couple of occasions, really great biographical information just seemed to disappear. With that, I became somewhat reluctant to signal a status change. Shortly after reading QRZ's reply to my query, this afternoon, I visited Dave's page one more time to find that someone had already reported his SK status and that QRZ had left the content untouched! Someone was obviously thinking along the same lines. I've worked Dave several times over the past few years and the loss of another active ham is truly a tear in the fabric of amateur radio. 73, Jon Pearl - W4ABC www.w4abc.com On 4/28/2015 10:05 AM, 'Lance Collister, W7GJ' w7gj at q.com [FFMA] wrote: > It is with great sadness that I learned this morning of the passing of another avid > VHF operator, Dave Vore, K8WW.
