*INVITATION TO 2014 W6JKV/K5AND BBQ, SEPTEMBER 26-27, AUSTIN, TX*

Please join Jimmy, W6JKV and Dick, K5AND, for another great opportunity to BS, talk
about new dxpeditions, meet hams and their spouses from all over the world who love 6
meters, white noise & EME, hear presentations on really neat stuff and see demos of
more really neat stuff. It is also a great chance to meet and learn about the new
technologies that are changing our environment from the people involved in making it
happen.

This year marks the 25th time that hams from all over the world and 40 plus states
will gather to eat BBQ and chat each other up. Most importantly, we get most of the
hams that are aggressive expeditioners.

Over the past 4 years, we’ve added selected live video conferencing which worked out
pretty well, so we will likely have a presentation or two this year as well via this
venue. Of course, we will continue to have our ‘live’ local presentations as well.

This year, we’re also adding a flea market venue. You are welcome to bring a modest
amount of gear that you’d like to sell/trade. You’re on your own for table/chair, and
you’d be doing this out of the back of your truck or tailgate.

We try hard to make this an event that non-hams enjoy, want to attend and one where
everyone feels welcome. As in the past, we will feature music on Saturday afternoon.

This year, the event venue is at back at Jimmy and Drew’s, 10915 Bee Caves Rd,
Austin, TX; (use Google Maps and/or Google Earth to get there).

For those not familiar with Austin, it is the “live music capital of the USA”,
featuring blues, rock, folk and country. So you may want to come a day early and take
in some of the music or Texas history at the state capitol. Austin is probably second
to Silicon Valley in high tech, plus it is hilly and has beautiful lakes. It is
pretty hot at times, and we have an outstanding assortment of bats, insects, snakes
and other varmints.

The *event starts on Friday* whenever the first person arrives. This year, we will
provide a modest lunch (free), so you won’t have to forage for food and then re-park.
As usual, a great Tex-Mex meal will be served at 6:30; cost for the TexMex meal is $10.

The *event continues all day Saturday* with free lunch at noon and the BBQ dinner at
4 or so. The cost for the BBQ dinner is $20. There will be free margaritas, beer,
water, soft drinks & ice cream _both days_.

*_Your RSVP = check, PayPal or cash; just an email is not enough_*. Please send
checks or Pay Pal to Dick; if doing PayPal, use my email address as payee address.

We *_need_* your $$ commitment by Sept 1, (please, we can’t do this right without
your help, so help us help you thru timely communications.)

*_ALSO IMPORTANT IS FOR THE SPOUSES WHO WANT TO GO THE OUTING ON SATURDAY MORNING TO
RSVP TO Sara Teel. _**(sarabeth143 at gmail.com <mailto:sarabeth143 at gmail.com>. *

*There will be a follow-on email from Sara regarding the ladies’ outing, lunch, cost
etc.*

**

*If you’re a vendor planning to show equipment, please coordinate your needs (one
table per) with Dick (dick at dkhanson.com <mailto:dick at dkhanson.com>). And finally, if
you would like to make a PowerPoint presentation, again, please coordinate with Dick.*

**

Here is a listing of several close-by motels that folks seem to like. Prices range
from $110-160. Prices are seasonal, and are ‘adjusted’ for special Austin events etc,
so getting a reservation in earlier is much better than later. Also, we have included
a near-by RV park and one B&B for those so inclined. Even tho we understand that you
all like to stay ‘with the herd’, we do not have a good way of managing this
information. Please remember, it is just Jimmy and me doing this…..we do not have a
committee to help us arrange (guarantee) group hotel rates, dispersing data where
everyone is staying etc.
