Barry was truly a great supporter of digital modes on 6m, as well as a very kind and 
generous man. He helped many of us not only with his contacts, but also with his 
technical expertise and experience. He will be very fondly remembered and appreciated

I haven???t seen this announced anywhere and I think the VHF contesting community will be interested in this new committee. The ARRL Board of Directors July meeting minutes includes a report on the Program Services Committee (PSC) that indicates that an Ad-Hoc committee has been formed to review and discuss various issues related to the ARRL VHF and above contest program.

While this was announced at the Central States VHF Conference, it has not yet received much distribution.

Here is the pertinent text:

"VHF and above contesting rules.
The PSC voted to authorize the appointment of an ad-hoc committee to review and discuss various issues related to the ARRL VHF and above contest program. The following individuals have been subsequently appointed to this committee:

??? Kermit W9XA (Chairman)
??? Dave Patton NN1N
??? Marty Woll N6VI
??? Doug Rehman K4AC
??? Joel Harrison W5ZN (pending acceptance to my invite)

All have considerable VHF+ contesting experience and perspective through involvement with their respective VHF+ contesting communities, and I believe they will provide us with sound advice and recommendations that will enable PSC to tackle the challenge of improving the entire contesting program."

Other interesting points to VHFers in the report:

"??? PSC requested that headquarters staff explores opportunities to emphasize more activity of the 6 and 10 meters bands. Ideas included a combined 6- and 10-meter contest, a 10 meter grid square award, and emphasis on portable operations"

and

"??? Study the feasibility, pros/cons, etc. of potentially making submitted logs public for ARRL contests.???

"??? Investigate potential mobile categories for HF contesting.???

The minutes were written by Brian N5ZGT, PSC chairman.

Many of us were disappointed when the ARRL BOD decided to let the original VUCAC sunset last summer, as there was a lot of unfinished business, but it looks like they have decided that there are still issues to be addressed in VHF and above contesting and will attempt to address them. With a smaller group, perhaps it will be easier for this committee to converge on controversial issues. The ARRL web page has contact information for the members that are also ARRL BOD directors, which I think most are.

While I would hope that the members of the committee would solicit input from the VHF contesting community, if you have things that you think the committee should consider now is the time to contact them and get your concerns on the agenda. Remember to send a copy to your Division Director and Section Manager. Be productive, reasonable, logical, measured, and innovative with your suggestions. - Duffey KK6MC

Glad to see that they are considering a mobile category for HF contesting. 
Now they need to consider a mobile category for VHF contesting. That is 
something that I have been pushing for in the last decade.  We already have 
a 10 meter contest, interesting to see they are considering one with 6m 
thrown in as well.

the above website.   Thanks to all the supporters and all those who took the time to 
get on the air and watch for me during the DXpedition. This was the most successful 
6m EME DXpedition to date, with 108 stations copied via EME.  I regret not completing 
with the additional 40 stations copied, and apologize for being unable to complete 
with you.   I hope we have better luck during the next 6m EME DXpedition to another 
rare DXCC!    A complete and more detailed DXpedition report will follow later, as 
time permits.

QSL cards have arrived, and will be sent out this week to those who have already 
submitted SASE's.  The remainder of the QSL's will be sent out direct over the next

*SUMMARY OF RESULTS*



In the end, there were 73 contacts made with 25 DXCC, with 40 other stations in 9 
additional DXCC copied but not worked on 6m EME.  68 of the contacts, in 23 different 
DXCC were worked on 6m EME; the other 5 stations in 2 DXCC were contacted via 
ionospheric modes, presumably involving the E layer.  The summary is shown below, 
with all stations listed in alphabetic order.  Signal strengths shown for stations 
worked are the values during the contact. Often Faraday rotation made the polarity 
quite different at both ends of the contact, so larger stations may appear to have 
been weaker when worked.   Signal strengths shown for stations copied but not worked 
are the best values copied from them over the course of the DXpedition.   Some 
stations were copied many different times during the operation, and a number of those 
stations were called for extended periods of time without success.  May the tones be

Hello Vasco,

GL with your 6m WAS!   You have really done VERY VERY well so far!  There are more 
stations coming on 6m EME all the time, so I am sure you will be able to find someone 
to contact eventually. However, right now, the only stations that come to mind are:

SD - W7XU, W0SD
WY - K7TNT

I THINK there was someone building a large 6m station in NM, but I can't remember who 
it was.   I don't know anyone in VT, although I am sure Chip, W1AIM is capable of 6m 
EME,  if you could convince him to try.

Maybe some other folks can offer you additional suggestions.   GL and VY 73, Lance

Vasco,

There is a ham in SW NM (DM62)  that I think has 
a good 6M station ?  He is David A Jorgensen, 
WD5COV,  <mailto:wd5cov at vtc.net>wd5cov at vtc.net 
.  Contact him and see if he see if he is willing 
to be QRV on 6M EME.  He has very good ground 
gain in all directions and  especially for MR and 
MS.  You will have to select the good times, for 
both of you, for EME schedules, if he is willing to try.

If you have no luck with finding a station in NM, 
please contact me later, as I have a ham friend 
who often goes portable, to provide rare grids 
via MS.  I think that we could put together a 
good single long yagi portable 6m station, in NM, to get QRV.

What does your station consist of ?  Antenna, power etc. ?

  I was wondering that, too. But VUCC is only for 50MHz and above, and since
you posted it here.. :-)   So, congrats. I have 175 grids confirmed right now myself.
My late Elmer, Jay Rupar, K0ETC, had over 500 grids confirmed on 50 MHz.
I think he even had WAS on 50 MHz. :-)  Jay lived about 5 miles from me, but
alas he is a SK, he died last year of complications of a stroke he had 5 years ago.
I miss him!

Congrats on the 6m VUCC!

I recently got my 450 grid sticker for my 50mhz VUCC and have enough paper 
cards to get to 516 confirmed.  That is with 100 watts and either a 2 or 3 
element beam pretty low-like 30 feet high. So, it doesn't take much to have 
a great time on 6m.  Also have 6m Worked All States and Worked All 
Continents with the same setup.
