Hello!

I chatted with Andy on Skype and also ran some moon printouts for windows with
horizon-only moonset stations in North America. For the most part, during their first
week of operation (September 28 to October 4, which is the best cndx for EME), they
would need to elevate between 60 to 70 degrees for horizon-only stations. Obviously,
this is a very difficult feat, and involves a much less mechanically stable mount
than if the antenna is simply mounted horizontal and aimed at the horizon.

All their EU contacts can be made with their ground gain while they are aimed at the
horizon during their moonrise or moonset. In addition, all the NA stations with
elevation can work them during their moonrise while 3D2RA has ground gain.   They
will be running a kw and a 6M8GJ yagi looking out over the ocean on their moonrise,
so should be able to work a NA station with a kw and a good yagi such as a 6M7JHV or
larger if it is elevated and aimed at the moon.  Obviously, it is an advantage to be
able to elevate YOUR antenna to be able to match the moonrise on the DXpedition
station's end.

In order to help them determine whether it is worth the effort to try to elevate
their antenna, we would like to try to see how much demand there is for Rotuma via
EME by horizon-only stations in NA.   It would really be helpful for you to send a
request direct to Andy (his email is shown above, copied on this email) if you are
horizon-only and would like him to be able to add elevation to be able to contact
you.   Also please indicate to him what your station 6m is, and who you have
contacted before on 6m EME during your moonset.
