I monitor it here all the time.  Use an old GE Progress line tube receiver that hears as good as the Midland. i think.  Vertical antenna  does just fine.  The 5 el 6M beam is for SSB and CW with the K3.  

Couple years back i used a 10W PEP mobile with the beam and worked all over the country when June rolled around.  Think i got 45 states that year.  People couldn't believe i was only running 10W PEP.  That was fun, but sometimes frustrating.
