:::: My advice......
Do NOT go on six meters with anything less than a few element horizontal
beam. They're not large at all, and you can build one in a few hours if
needed. Put it on your garage, put it on your house, put it on a pole,
but try to get it up about 25'.
Too many people get on six meters with an omnidirectional antenna, or
some other minimal thingy and then make things even worse by sitting and
monitoring the FM simplex frequency. Then they come away thinking that
the band is all about the nonsense I've seen written here the last few days.
SSB is where its at.
Monitor 50.125....use your squelch if you want. On most radios it works
on SSB just fine.
In the next month or so you will hear amazing things if you keep at it.
Often the band opens for hours and hours to specific parts of the
country, and if you're timing is right, you'll work another country!
I run 2KW to a gigantic beam up 100', and let me tell you I run into
dozens of stations using 10 watts, small antennas, sometimes inside of
their attic, and when the band is open they work loads of stuff.
/*Almost nobody works anybody on 52.525 FM.*/
*To repeat, don't waste your time hoping to see any of the magic on this
fabulous band if you don't put up even a tiny beam and listen on 50.125
*Good luck, and I hope you enjoy this incredible band as much as I have
for 55 years!
