[50mhz] dumb question!

Depends on the tint...if it's an aftermarket type, you can cut around the
base coupler (I ONLY RECOMMEND LARSEN....anything else is garbage); just did
that last week in a new Chevy Silverado which had a stripe of such tint
across the top of the windshield. The Larsen KG450 worked like a champ
BTW want to buy a UNUSED KG-2/70 dualbander?? I have one but I am drilling
holes in the new 2011 Escape.....So I don't need the KG! Save ya some
greenbacks.
Besides they don't make one for 6...back in the 1990s while at Gulf States
Utilities, our garage issued an edict about NO holes drilled....so we looked
at alternatives...Avanti made a lowband on glass....what a POS it
was!!!....the coupler inside fell OFF the glass during testing with 100w out
of the GE MSTR II !!!
Called Larsen and asked...they LAUGHED (and rightfully so)...you know HOW
big a coupler for LOW Z (which is what Larsen uses...everyone else uses HI Z
coupling) would be??? TOO big for the windshield..
We ran pattern plots on our own antenna range.......with different antenna
mounting spots, etc (HEY I got paid to do this...what a job huh?!).....
It showed the best overall places was a roof mounted quaterwave or base
loaded 1//4w...and we were using the latter (actually CC's SIGNALS
line....)...except for my van...it had a Larsen NMO-150 on top
;)......covered 48-53Mhz with ok SWR (guess which section it was trimmed
for??? :)
And the company radio I was using was a Midland Syntech II..I played ham
radio more at work than I did after hours!!
DAMN and I left that place to get back into broadcast engineering???? LOL
