[50mhz] polarization ?

The Par isn't designed to be used with high power. As I don't put out
more than 100 watts, it isn't a problem. The on-board balun is one
less purchase item, and doesn't use up coax for a loop choke. The
side arms don't need to be fastened to the main arm. Have you ever
shaken it? It does not move. The tension by the angle of the arm
going through the hole in the main arm puts a lot of pressure on it.
Dale actually designed it to be portable if needed, e.g. you can take
it apart. If you know that you will never change it, you can dimple
the rods and they are permanently there. I haven't checked it with an
analyzer yet, but I put the rods in, with one inch protruding through,
like Dale suggested. The SWR meter on my FT-450 did not move past the
first bar, whether dead key, whistle, etc. Pretty good for a first
try. Dale said to put it at 20 feet and set the SWR, and then raise
it to permanent position if it was impractical to set it from height.
I bummed my knee, so having it ready to take up the tower by a friend
will be handy.
The main reason I bought it was that I have an EndFedz and absolutely
love it. I figured if the omni was anywhere near as good, it would
perform great. Having the option to make it mobile is a plus. And,
with it being $111.00 shipped to my house, that made it affordable. I
made my 80 ocf for my house. But, I don't want to make a squalo or
other antenna right now, so the 2 minutes it takes to put the OA-50
together is pretty neat. It takes way longer to get my Arrow II
together if I take it somewhere.
I talked to Dale on Friday afternoon; he confirmed the order had been
received after he got back from dinner out with friends about 11:30
p.m. that night. I got an email that it was ready for UPS pick up on
Monday, and it arrived on my porch on Wednesday. I wish more
companies were like his. Another excellent 6m option is the 4 element
yagi by Arrow Antenna. I didn't get it because I don't have a
rotator, trees are too close to my tower.
I know there are lots of options out there for people. Fortunately,
most of us hams have a cooperative and helpful attitude toward each
other. We can discuss antennas in a friendly manner. I did read on
EHam where reviewers liked the OA-50 better than other, considerably
more expensive antennas they had used. I'm curious to hear from other
owners of Par antennas.
I am going to check out that loop antenna. It sounds interesting.
Learning about antennas is a life-long experience. I respect that a
lot of hams always make their own antennas, and I know that a lot of
us like a "get it and put it up and go" antenna. I like a little of
both.
I am brand new to six meters. If anybody knows of openings, email me
and let me know. I want to try this puppy out...
