For any of you who still need Namibia on 6m and have not already heard the news,
experienced VHF and UHF EME operator HB9DRI will be activating V55EME on 6m next
month. The station is a pair of horizontally polarized M2 6M7JHV yagis stacked
side by side (on a tower approximately 2 wavelengths above the ground), along with
a powerful solid state amplifier. He also will be bringing a low noise external
preamp for use with the station's IC7800. More details can be found posted at the
Make More Miles on VHF site under V55EME:

Alex plans to operate JT65A mode in the first sequence during Moonrise and Moonset
(aimed on the horizon, between zero and around 15 or 20 degrees elevation) between
May 3 to May 15. He expects to have very good ground gain when aimed on the
horizon... remember, the extra ground gain could result in an extra 6 dB of gain,
which should allow him to complete with single yagi stations.

Between May 9 and 13, when 6m EME cndx are optimum, he will try to manually
elevate so he can be QRV for horizon-only stations in EU and NA. He plans to run
some skeds on 50.204, but expects to be calling CQ most of the time on 50.200 (the
usual 6m EME DXpedition frequency) in the first sequence JT65A . As usual,
callers are asked to coordinate among themselves on the ON4KST EME chat page so
they spread themselves out every 200 Hz:

He will be 60 km from the nearest internet, but still hopes to update his stations
worked list and status from time to time, provided there are no rains and the dirt
roads are passable.

One of the goals of the trip is to train other operators down there on WSJT9, so
they will be able to continue operation after he leaves. This means there also
should be good future activity from there on JT65A for EME and ISCAT on Es and TEP.

If you are new to EME, and don't know when your moon is near the horizon, remember
that your the moon position is very conveniently shown in small red numbers at the
top of the map on the ON4KST chat pages. The red line on the map also shows
moonrise and moonset. If you don't already have moon position prediction
software, there is a free program available on my website:

If you aren't familiar with JT65A mode, there also is a checklist of how to set it
up and use if for EME on my website:

Alex hopes to hand out Namibia to many deserving 6m operators over the next few
weeks. I also hope that you can add him to your log ;-) GL and DX! VY 73, Lance
