With it being on a timer, I would bet a motor/pump (lawn watering type) or a light (neon, etc) of some type...what time of the day is this present? Day light or night time?
If at night, you could (carefully) look up at the poles and insulators, etc looking for a blue or green glow (signs of an energized piece of equipment too close to a ground and arcing/burning over).
