There was someone here in my town (Joplin, MO) that put up a crossband
repeater between 52.525 and some UHF frequency, and he had fairly good
luck chatting away when there were band openings. He'd run around town
with his HT while his link would be listening in on his tower.
The only drawback would be ID'ing yourself, or rather your crossband link.
I think that's what got our local ham in trouble. :-(
