Modification complete!

I used the W5WVO mod for the A50-5S. Haven't checked the SWR, yet, but
managed to do the entire mod for under $3 cash out of pocket.

For the boom extension, I had a 10 ft. length of 1-1/2" diameter
titanium tubing that was just a *hair* thinner than the specified
aluminum. Using a regular hacksaw blade, was able to cut it to length
and cut the compression slots on the end. Was just a hair loose, so
used some self-tapping sheet-metal screws that I had left over from a
Mosley CL-33 rejuvenation project to fix things into place. Spent a
little under $2 for a pair of 3/4" to 1-1/2" airplane hose clamps from
the Lowe's out US78/Stone Mountain Freeway and about $0.68 for four
nylon insert nuts to replace some rusted but not galled nuts for the
U-bolts. Spent under $3 cash out of pocket for the parts I didn't
already have.

The titanium tubing is left over from another hobby, high-power
rocketry. A buddy of mine had found some at a surplus store and
purchased it with the idea he'd try to make motor casings out of it.
Turns out it was too thin for that purpose and when he moved to Florida,
sold me the tubing along with a bunch of other rocket-related stuff for
a song. I hadn't used it until now. Works perfect for this mod and is
stiffer than the aluminum. Just wish I had some more to replace the
entire boom with it!
