Jim,
I have a pair of stacked square loops spaced 9 ft apart and properly
phased. I also have an M2 6M5X 5 element yagi at about the same
height. I use a Flex 5000A with dual receivers so I can see the exact
signal strength from both antennas simultaneously on the calibrated
spectrum display The purpose of this setup is so I can see signals
coming from directions other than where the yagi is pointed. I can tell
you there is a very real and significant difference in signal strength -
often 20 dB or more - between what the yagi is pointed at and what the
loops can hear. I have a similar setup for 2 meters and see the same
results. You would be much better off even with a small 3 element yagi
on a lightweight TV rotator if at all possible.

I want to upgrade to something horizontal but a beam I think maybe out of the question for now. So I was wondering how many of you are using loops. I am thinking of either the Par or the M2...any comments?
