I was about to offer the same advice....AND I happen to have one that came
with my FT-690RII...I don't plan on using it since the thing CANT be
effective (be like a wet noodle!)....the radio doesn't have enough metal for
a GP and the whip surely cant radiate that well....I even remember the
loaded whips we had on the old Motorola "lunch box" portables on lowband.
The radio worked great on a real antenna but the PL259 base loaded whip??
FORGET IT...John, if you really want to be sadistic, I'll let ya have the
YHA-6 I have for cheap....you have done me right in deals over the last few
years.

You might try the used/hamfest/ebay market to see if you can find a Yaesu
YHA-6, a telescoping 5 meter whip originally supplied with the FT-690RII.

A whip like that works but does appear to put quite a strain on the rig's
panel mount BNC antenna connector.
