What I have made up for this purpose is a 1 wavelength long (mind the
velocity factor!) coax 'jumper' to use with the MFJ-259x.  Or, if you
are careful, your rig (set for LOW POWER) and the SWR meter attached
right at the rig -- with the coax jumper running over to the antenna.

A little easier with 2M antennas -- using a full coverage HT.
