Gene, I agree with you 100%.
I can't begin to tell you how many times I've seen posts like the recent one
from Bud, K2YOF, purporting to explain why some guys won't QSL: Not everybody
in ham radio is into chasing awards! Wow, really? I never knew that!
Come on. This isn't about what people are "into". It's about whether ham radio
is the fraternity (gender-neutral) it has always purported to be. What about
the idea that you help your fellow human beings accomplish their cherished
goals, because it's the right thing to do, and because it feels good? Gosh,
I'll bet throwing those unopened QSLs/SASEs into the trash can feels REALLY
GOOD! Yeah, I suppose so, if you happen to be a misanthrope or a sociopath.
Come on, guys, if you're really that depressed and dissociated from the rest
of humankind, get some psychiatric help, for crying out loud. You'll feel much
better.
Sorry, this whole attitude just really sticks in my craw. Enough said, I
suppose...
