50.125 is the calling freq for SSB (50.110 is the SSB calling freq for DX; overseas usually). US autobeacon band from 50.06 to 50.08 is a good place but sometimes you just NEVER know...I once heard a HC1 beacon on 50.035 BOOM into EL39 and NOTHING else was on the band.....so tune around for CW. IF you have a vertical for 6 (2m 5/8wave antenna works that way ;), you can use that for DX/omni monitoring...the polarization changes during some skip conditions.
Or get a PAR Omni angle, etc and use that...the yagi will definitely help with "local" contacts (out to 200-400 miles).
and dont forget to CALL CQ once in a while...thats why 6 is the magic band.
