I would like to get an opinion on a radio I have been
considering buying. It is the Alinco DX70TH.
I am looking at it for a backup to my present mobile
setup. I am using an ICOM706 mk2(g) at present and it
is a great radio but ICOM has some features I am not
real happy with. For example, the NB (Noise Blanker)
in the 706 is either too much or nothing at all. If
you have the blanker on, it causes the front end to
overload on strong adjacent signals. If it was
possible to vary the Noise Blanking level as it is on
some better radios, it woud be great. Second, when you
work in the CW Mode (Some of us still like that
mode), you can be on 50.125 SSB and when you change to
CW, no one can hear you because of the offset that
is built-in to this radio. You have to actually retune
to 50.125.700 to be able to be heard on 50.125.
Poor feature for me. You have to buy an extra filtyer
for CW which is very expensive. ON the DX70TH they
advertise that it has built in narrow filters. That
is a big plus for me. The DX70TH does not have two
meters or 440 mHz but I don't use those anymore. I
am just a six meter freak after 59 years of ham radio.
I would be grateful to all you great 50 mHz guys for
sharing your experiences. Thanks, in advance.
