If one only needs a radio for FM mode, Yaesu has the FT-8900R which
has 10, 6, 2M & 70cm in one compact unit (I don't know the specs, so
I am saying FM only with reservations.. (This has built in CTCSS and
DCS encode/decode for those who use repeaters with any regularity.).

Personally, I wish I had this radio, rather than the two I have for
mobile operations, as with most newer transceivers made today, the
head can be remote mounted with the radio hidden under the seat, or
maybe in a car trunk.

In thumbing through the AES catalog, I notice Alinco DR-M06TH makes a
stand alone 6 meter FM radio which goes for just over $ 250., but is FM only..
