  Everyone,

John NE0P and I had a brief e-mail excahnge about on this topic last 
June. I think I sent him the attached map. It's one of six maps that 
show the percent of time that foEs exceeds 5 MHz during the day in June. 
The other five maps are for June-night, December-day, December-night, 
equinox-day, and equinox-night. The data is old (1958), but I suppose 
it's still 'good' data. Is there any newer data out there?

The maps for daytime show that the probability of Es increases as you 
near the equator. The nighttime patterns aren't quite as clear.

The NA vs EU comparison is interesting, and it has some issues to 
contend with to properly answer the question: the wide expanse of both 
continents, population density to observe Es, etc.

This certainly is an interesting subject.
