Actually, I think more sporadic E happens in the spring than in the fall.  Remember spring covers May and June up to around June 21st.  Now later June and early July also gives us really good Es, but we get about 1 1/2 months in spring, and about 1 month in summer for Es.

THis is one thing that has really surprised me since moving south.  We get many more mid-day and early afternoon 6 meter openings here. It is pretty common here during the summer to work W6 around 1pm or so. It was pretty rare to have 6 meters open at that time in Iowa.
