I would prefer to leave the low bands to non-cw operators and do not allow weak siginal or cw for them on vhf through microwave(FM and repeters OK.)
At age 12 with no Elmer, I had to sxxx, or get off the pot. Try going to a large city(arranging a ride) at age 13 to take the General test. At that period in time it was do or die. Well, I managed to survive and found VHF and above a real challenge to amateurs. I use weak siginal cw or ssb on the VHF+ bands and find that my 40wpm+ cw from the 8th grade to be most enjoyable even while mobile.
CW is a language which if fluent, flows like the spoken word.To write the characters is akin to being a court reporter. 
Yes, I am fortunate that it was manditatedf to learn the language(CW) and proud that the past requirements forced me to be this way.
