Well I guess it's about time I, KG4FET Sandor EM90dh Jacksonville FL, chime
in on this subject. I have run pile ups nearly every day this past week.
I'll call CQ on .125 and QSY, usually to .135. I try to encourage a QSO of a
sort. Usually it's the guys calling who cut it short not me! I try to work
one and let the next guy in line know who's next by giving the call of the
person I'm working and tell suffix XXX your next for example "VE1YX Good
afternoon FUB ur next." I give grid, Name, RST in the first exchange and usually
that I am on the Northside of Jacksonville FL. If YX wants to know more, or
has questions then I am more then willing to have a chat, because FUB knows
he's next and will stick around. If It is a longer QSO I let FUB know I have
not forgotten about him or invite him to join in. Now I do travel up to 290 to
really chew the fat when the band is open. PSK is a slower paced mode as
far as I am concerned.

Now as to rag chews on the call freq on .125. We have a group here in
Jacksonville who does hang out on .125 talking almost every evening. We usually
point beams in a couple of prospective directions for an opening. Due to the
PROFOUND lack of people call CQ on 6M this is a good way for us, AND you, to
know we are beginning to get an band opening. We always shut down as soon as
a couple of "DX" stations call us or break in.

Now as far as using freqs below .125 for domestic DX. We have a very
limited Bandwidth as far as a "true" DX window is concerned. Usually this begins
somewhere around 50.100 and goes up as high 50.123, KG4Wille Wille, John, in
Gitmo all weekend for example or VP's and HI's who call and QSY above .110.
To have a domestic station in this narrow gap walking on stations he can't
hear because his beam is pointed wrong or the Es won't extend that far is an
inconsiderate use of bandwidth. With the only a few places between .125 and
51.000 that are agreed upon as "special" or call freqs is 50.400 as the AM call
freq (sure would like to hear some AM'ers once in a while) and 50.150 which
ARRL still lists as the Pacific DXwindow , 50.26 as the HSMS CALL FREQ and
50.290 as the PSK/SC Digital call freq, this HUGE amount of bandwidth sure beats
trying to squeeze in on DX you cant hear between 100 and 125. If you are a
rare grid everybody who is a regular 6M op will know it and it will get
posted on any one of several internet, telnet, or packet based clusters. You can
be assured you will get your fair share of contacts no matter where you QSY.
Speaking of bandwidth, Thanks for this.
God Bless 73 and Hope to see/hear you on 6M
