Hi Buck,

1) It's kinda like this:

QRP + good (directional gain) antenna = good results during moderate to strong
openings, or even weak openings if the antenna has enough forward gain.

Moderate power (100W) + no-gain antenna = good results during strong openings,
poor results during marginal openings.

QRP + no-gain antenna = good results only during extremely strong openings.

If you're philosophically wedded to the QRP lifestyle :-) then you need to put
up a good rotatable yagi or quad at least 25 feet above level ground. I
recommend 5 elements or better, 18 foot boom length or better. Higher is better,
too, up to a point (there is definitely such a thing as "too high" on 6M when
working sporadic-E propagation). Yagis 25 to 50 feet above level terrain do
extremely well on 6M sporadic-E.

2) CW operation centers around 50.099. During very strong openings and/or
contests, activity usually spreads out in both directions from there. In many
parts of the country, 50.099 is sort of the "unofficial" CW calling frequency.
