[50mhz] looking for beacon transmitter

Chris,

A buddy of mine and I were trying to convert a MASTR II for 6M beacon use. We've
kind of let the project slip, but I'd still like to get it finished before the
spring Es season starts. We did get a PIC processor running as a controller and
got the transmitter tuned up on the desired 6M frequency. The problem we were
having was KEYing TRANSIENTS ("key clicks") -- tuning down the band, you could
hear the thing coming 30 kHz or more away! Not something I'm willing to put on
the air. My friend tried a number of things to soften the attack and decay time
of the keying waveform, but nothing seemed to eliminate the transients. Have you
encountered this problem? If so, how have you done the keying to rectify it?
