The WRL "Tomcat Six" Tech-Ceiver TC-6A sprang from the earlier TC-6 but
neither of them were prizes.

In fact, I'm not sure it's even legal to fire up a one-tube 6M
transmitter these days. A 6CX8 triode section xtal oscillator triples up
to the pentode part which doubles to 50.X mc.

Doubles? Yep. It doubles in the final. That approach obviates
complicated neutralization, and saves a tube, and sprays everything that
shows up at the grid out the antenna. But with only 350 volts on the
plate, do we care?

The reciever is a little better. A 6CB6 RFA feeds a 6EA8
oscillator/mixer to a single stage of 2.1 mc IF with a 6BA6. Doing
double duty on TX and RX is a 12AX7 to a 6AQ5. It's all AM and the first
model RX covered 48 to 54 while the "A" variation started at 49 mc.

Transitonal models, like mine, include a "TC-6A Conversion Kit Model A-2"
document detailing the upgrade to the kit.

I am not aware the Tomcat Sixes were available pre-wired.
