Mike,
if you want to work DX on SSB and FM, both local and DX, a vertical is
fine...for SSB local though, a horizontal antenna is HIGHLY
recommended....like a PAR Electronics Omniangle or a
halo/loop/squalo/turnstile/Big Wheeel, etc...
remember there is a 20db difference between vertical and horizontal...on
6 skip, that is not a problem...as the polarization rotates when the
signal bounces off the atmosphere but for being able to work non-dx
stations the best when the band is not open, you really can tell the
difference.
