Heard the following Florida beacons from NY (FN31) yesterday morning =
1/9/04
My antenna is a 1960's Saturn 6m halo in the attic. Height 20' swr =
1.5:1 with rg-6 cable.
1600Z K4AHO/b EL98 RST 559
1705Z W4CHA/b EL88 RST 549
Called cq on 50.09 cw periodically between 1600 to 1700Z no answer. (20w =
out to halo).
Called w2vdi/4 near 50.097 3x no answer.
Why were there no cw stations calling cq near 50.09? Yet, I heard some =
cw near 50.098, 50.115 and 50.125?
Why is there no firm cw calling freq like 50.125 is for ssb? I heard =
some complaints earlier on this
forum about too little cw activity. Having a spread of activity like =
that doesn't help.=20
The ssb boys started at 125 and were easy to find.=20
Finally worked my first 50 mhz dx "W4VC" EM81 with my halo and 20w ssb =
out. Got 5x3
What is the best way these days to get a qsl? I haven't pursued qsl's =
since my novice days in 1962.
Those days, postage was 5 cents and everyone qsl'd as a novice.
Tnx,
