Gary,
I don't have the room for a full size beam....but I found a good
compremise in an moxon rectangle.
It takes up 70% of the area that a 2 element yagi would take up. It has
almost as much forward gain.
It has an excellent front to back ratio and is broad enough on the front
that you don't have to swing it around as much.
You can turn it by hand or use a light duty rotator.
They are simple, direct connect for a 50 ohm feedline.
I built one useing 1/2" copper tubing and cpvc fittings.
