[50mhz] 6M yagi designs/redesigns

I've had a number of e-mails from list members requesting length/spacing
numbers for various configurations of 6M yagis. Bear in mind that optimizing
a yagi design requires knowledge of a lot of dimensional variables, like
boom construction technique, diameter, and tapering; element construction
technique, diameter, and tapering; style of element-to-boom clamps used and
their dimensions; type of feed system used and its construction; etc.
Modifying a manufactured (stock) antenna entails inputing all the
construction and dimensional information into the program. If you are
modifying a Cushcraft, as I did, then that's already done, and all I have to
do is fill in a few details. For antennas of other manufacture, however, all
bets are off. Same for home-brew antennas. I would have to start from
scratch.
I did find doing this kind of work on the computer to be really fun,
however, so I highly recommend YO to everybody who wants to enhance his
yagi. You'll learn a lot about antenna design, and you'll probably end up
with a design better suited to your exact needs by playing with the software
yourself, trying out different design options and trade-offs, etc.
That said, I'll be happy to run some models for a few people who don't have
the means to do this on their own -- long as things don't get out of hand. I
still have to work for a living. <g> You'll need to tell me the dimensional
properties of your antenna or design as described above, and I'll see what I
can come up with. No implied warantees, fitness for a particular purpose,
your mileage may blah, blah, blah... The usual disclaimers.
If there is enough interest in the modification of the Cushcraft A50-5S
antenna into a longer, better-optimized 5-el beam, I'll write up the exact
procedure and dimensions and publish it.
