[50mhz] Kenwood F6A as a 50mhz receiver

Has anyone tried using the Kenwood F6A HT as a 6 meter
SSB/CW receiver? I borrowed one for a little while
and tried to listen on 80, 40, and 20 meters, but
didn't hear anything. Wondering how it works on 6. I
am looking at using it as a "Band opening indicator."
For example, when I finish teaching my morning class
at 12:30pm, I can either stay at work, or run home for
awhile and come back to work later. If 6 is open,
then I come home. Sometimes I can find someone on the
local repeater to tell me if the band is open, but
this would help to fill in those other times.

I know that the stock antenna is a piece of crap, so I
would replace it with a 6/2/440 antenna. So how does
it work, if you have tried it.
