Depending on which rigs you already have, the ten tec
transverters can be a very cost effective way to go.
If you already have a HF transceiver, you can get a 20
to 6 meter transverter, and a 10 to 2 meter
transverter. The 6 meter will cost $75 or so, and the
2 meter will cost $100. Another way is to get the 10
to 2 meter transverter, and then a ten tec 2 to 6
meter transverter. This method will allow you to
cover the more of the 6 meter band. You could also do
this method with a Radio Shack 10 meter monoband
transceiver, which was being closed out for $50.
There are plenty of other transverter options, which
will cost more, but will probably provide better
performance. They are also a little more complicated
to interface. You could also find an Icom 706
original model for $400 or so, which is a great way to
go since you get 100 watts on 6, eliminating the need
and expense of placing an amp after the transverter.
You would also get 10 watts on 2, and this would be
the easiest method to hook up.
