I've worked many AM stations in the lower 48 when I was in Alaska - special 
request from a SSB or CW station to QSY and try AM - happy to oblige.  FYI, 
you can check on spots, chat live with other 6ers, and check propagation at 
this (and other) web site(s):

Select 6 meters, and you're on your way!  Post a note saying you're 
interested in AM on 6, and someone may be able to help you out if the 
band's open.
