Ah......but it is nice to be working from EM12 to parts of Florida EM90, EM92, El88, etc. off the back of my homebrew 3el yagi at 22' that barely looks over the roofline and getting 58's and 59's at <10watts. Then changing frequencies and working Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada off the front without turning it at all.

A lot of the guys out there were running 100 watts or better and I still got through half the pileups. If I didn't I waited a bit....moved off frequency and worked someone else and then came back and found them again and worked them.

I'm not a serious DX'er but I get a lot more pride working these contacts barefoot with my FT-690RII or IC-505 because I'm not using brute force to make the contacts. This way I'm not splattering 5Mhz up and down the band wiping out someone elses QSO on a different frequency. What happened to using the minimal amount of power required to communicate ?

Anyway...I have a stack of QSO cards waiting to drop off at the post ofice today.....

Now there is a true boy scout - BE PREPARED!

Amps are nice but no matter how much a big gun you are, more power is nice in a pile up, been there done that!

But when you break through a pile up with say 100 watts and are competing against the KW+ guys, it is nice! You deserve an atta-boy. Been there and done that too!

Either way it is fun! And that is the name of the game.
