Good work Jon. I think you're going to find during the big openings an
amplifier is totally unnecessary when the conditions are right. I'm 5
states away from WAS (course, one is HI :) and need to get certified
VUCC all on barefoot and 3 element yagi, some on a wire dipole slung
under the porch. 
Amps are nice to have during a pile up I've heard! ; )

Last night was my first "big" opening.

I worked a number of stations in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arizona,
Nevada,

Utah, and Colorado as well as here in Texas.

What amazed me was a lot of the stations I worked in Florida happened
while

I had my meager beam pointed west and I worked them off of the back with
<10

watts and still got 57, 58, and 59 reports.

I only fired up the amp on 3 of the contacts...everything else was
barefoot.

Lots of fun !!!
