Thats the 64 dollar question.....the ARRL VRAC never included
packet in the 1Mhz offset 6mtr rptr bandplan...I dont think the
500 kHz plan does either....the 1.7 MHz plan DOES if I recall
correctly....but then is anyone running packet at all on six for
communication/BBS use? if so, it is 1/1000 the activity on 2...
I have for the last ten years or more suggested that long haul
links be used on 6 for the paths between 2mtr and higher local
access ports....(gear is cheap, putting the 6mtr gear away from
the residential areas makes it less of a TVI problem in those areas
where 6 DOES cause problems, antennas are bulky but power is easy
and NBs can overcome the normal static of 6 making a long haul link
very workable on 6)....but most folks shy away from 6....for the same
reason most stay off 6 FM....they are afraid of messing up their
neighbor's TV (which doesnt happen in a lot of cases...especially
if you DONT have TV2 in the area)
Check out the 1.7MHz plan (I think Lisa has it posted on the 6mt web
site?? if not, I know of one site where you can find it...I'll get
the URL for ya)....
As for what freqs to use? I know at one point 50.62 was proposed in
an OLD ARRL band plan....as long as you DONT use a freq in a band plan
that is proposed for rptr or voice use (and thats about everything above
51.00 now!)...
