Hello,
I will be visiting the US Virgin Islands to operate
in an HF contest at the end of March this year.
I was thinking about interesting bands or modes
to operate outside of the contest, and 6m came to mind.
The location is on a 1,000 ft hilltop with an unobstructed
view of ocean toward JA, US, and EU. I might be operating
an amplifier capable of 1000W on 6m. I would need to
purchase and construct an antenna (perhaps a 5-el yagi).
Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with 6m, and don't
know whether an operation like this would be of interest
to the 6m community. How good is propagation
typically in late March/early April in this point of the
sunspot cycle from the Caribbean to EU and US?
Is KP2 common on 6m?
Before I purchase 6m equipment for the trip, I just
wanted to find out from experienced 6m operators
whether this sounds like a worthwhile effort or a waste
of time. Thanks in advance for your advice.
